Ottawa Rules!

For those who could not travel to Ottawa we wanted to provide an update on what it was like. 810 0938

All the overpasses of the 417 were occupied with people welcoming the convoy. There were even camps of people at the side of the highways. Sometimes up to about 100 cars would be parked on the side of the 417 with supporters cheering the convoy on as it entered Ottawa. Skores of snowmobilers set up camps and BBQ'd food beyond the highway fences, cheering, and displaying supportive signs and Canadian flags. This was no small event. The convoy took all day to arrive and was greeted by 10's of thousands of supporters... if not 100's of thousands.

100,000 people were visible in front of parliament. The roads blocked off took a half hour to walk, perhaps longer. A constant drum of honking could be heard as approaching the blocked off streets. Truckers hunkered in. BBQ's could be seen as a common scene beside trucks. There was even "night club" that happened after dark on several nights with DJ music accompanied to synchronous truck honks. Fireworks could frequently be seen at dusk and during the evening.

We saw an enormous display of brotherly love and support. Free food being given away in several locations. We saw the mainstream media being chastised by the public while they setup cameras to look into small cross sections of crows and flooded the streets during the hours of lowest protestor numbers. Rebel news in contrast were treated as heroes.

Police presence was very strong. At one point I counted over 50 officers in sight. They had tactical officers on sight, and protestors commented that snipers could sometimes be seen from the top of parliament. Officers were not aggressive. They didn't enrage the crowd and when I spoke to them often showed support.

Politically, PPC signs were frequent. They even had a booth setup in a park were they offered hot coco and coffee. Maxime Bernier made a speech and showed support. Surprisingly there was also conservative party members showing support. A bit of a change in behaviour for them but its true. We took footage of Pierre Poilievre coming out to support us.

It was the largest protest any of us had ever been to in our lives, and unquestionably the longest. 24/7 there was stuff happening. Even while not in the protest, car honks could be heard throughout the city.
